The Russian Foreign Ministry urged Israel on Thursday to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza to allow the entry of food and medicine, and said that it was unacceptable that what it described as the “indiscriminate” bombing of the Strip had caused many civilian deaths and injuries.
This came in a statement issued by Moscow after Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, and Hussein Al-Sheikh, General Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip in a phone call.
Israel said earlier on Thursday that there would be no humanitarian exceptions to its siege of the Gaza Strip before the release of all its hostages, after the Red Cross demanded that fuel be allowed to enter to prevent overcrowded hospitals from “turning into morgues.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry explained that Bogdanov and Al-Sheikh agreed on the need for a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors to deliver food and medicine to the residents of the Strip.
She added that they also agreed on the need to restore water and electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip.
The Russian statement continued that they stressed that “the indiscriminate bombing is unacceptable and has caused a large number of civilian deaths and injuries.”
He added, “The goal of preventing mass migration from the Gaza Strip, which will become part of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, was emphasized.”
